The conclusion to all this crazy. Thrillers for #WeNeedDiverseBooks lovers

This book is the conclusion to the "I Hunt Killers" trilogy, and I should first warn readers, that this book reveals some pretty offscreen sexually explicit themes, including sexual abuse. If that is something that makes you dry heave, this isnt the book for you.

What I must get out the way...I was extremely reluctant to read this series at first. While it'd been suggested to us by Stacy Whitman, and then to my braggart sister Libertad, I just wasnt sure I could get into a story about a teenage white boy, who was the son of a notorious, the MOST notorious serial killer to ever live. Libby bragged about it so much, after suggesting it to our book soul mate Fountain Pen Diva, so I caved in when I'd seen they'd both responded so highly despite the subject matter.

I think this series will be one of those series' I talk about for years, when mentioning my favorite series'. It had so many things that I now look for in books, that is so needed in books, that I wish anyone who hasn't read it, would consider it immediately.

Blood of My Blood is the last story in the I Hunt Killers trilogy, and starts where the second book left off. Jasper, or "Jazz" bleeding to death with a gun wound to the leg, in a storage unit and two dead bodies.

The pacing in this story is friggin' amazing. I think because every time you'd get far with one narrative, they'd snatch you back to another person's narrative, leaving you in a fit of suspense. It always revealed just enough information, where you thought you knew what the hell was going on, so much, that at times even Jasper was dumbfounded like the reader.

The story purposely tried to make the reader keep their eye off the prize, and I was guilty of falling victim to that, because my mind just doesn't work like Billy Dent, Jasper's father, or the scariest white man on the planet.

I just couldn't imagine waking up to seeing Billy's face in front of mine, evil and twisted, and enjoying my fear no less. But even with his big balls of crazy, a sick part of me was glad he gave many moments to breath from his evil. Im a little ashamed to admit, and come on? You have to admit, the notorious Billy Dent mastering the Ipad is pretty damn hilarious.

But back to subject, the world building aspect, is still pretty cool, if you consider it to be what it's like to be in the mind of a serial killer. I always enjoyed the references to famous serial killers, because truth be told, I'd never heard of them or bothered to research them before hand. It's crazy how many thing sickos have gotten away with, and for as long as they did. A subject matter to address? You will never look at social networking the same as with this book.

I so wanted to predict the outcome so BAD, but I couldn't have predicted the ending until the last minute, and I was very afraid for the main character.

This was the first book out of the series, where I found Jasper humanly relatable. In the first two books, I had a love hate relationship with Jazz, because of his capabilities to manipulate, but resisting the power to always use it. This book gave some info to his backstory. I wont spoil it for readers, but sadly, I think Jazz was doomed before he was even born.

He never stood a chance to be 100 % normal, and for that, I don't know how to hate him completely. He nearly lost himself several times in this book, and a part of me was glad that he didn't, but another part was disappointed on what that outcome gave.

As a Supernatural fan, and the constant use of the phrase "The Family Business?" This book took that to a whole other level. Jazz took the "Aang" from The Last Avatar route(fans of the series will have a better idea what that means) but it wasn't without consequence.

There was just so much going on with this book. My only complaint is how long it took for it to come out!

The writing style is signature Barry Lyga. Clear and organized. I have no complaints about the style of it. The book is third person, but it actually had multiple POVs, that included bigger roles for Connie, Howie, Weathers, G.William, Hughes, and sadly, even Billy himself.

But they were all amazingly clear, and I wasn't lost for one second. The editing fits an industry standard, and blended dialogue and beats well enough for me to want more. And more. And more.

This is why the I Hunt Killers trilogy will stay with me. It's diversity. Barry Lyga even stated, that he will miss this series, because it's his most successful, and that should trump any bums claiming that including marginalized groups make the sales of a book go down.

True lovers of diversity in books, are parts of the reason this book was so successful. People want to see themselves in books, and not just to help an aid the "default" main character.

Jazz and his long term girlfriend Conscience aka "Connie" were what made me purchase the book, seeing how interracial couples in books, rarely get to just "be" a couple. They're often an "interracial" one. I loved Connie. I think the predicament she put herself in was a bit naive, and she paid for it, but doesn't every teenager make mistakes for people they care about? I only hope that their story isn't over.

I've said this before in my reviews, but the authors HAD to have dated a black girl some time in his life. I chuckle just a little bit, every time I saw the words "hair bonnet" when it come to Connie, mainly because, since I often read this book at night, I was ironically always wearing one. I want to know this dude's in. Why the hell is Lyga being so progressive? How dare he research my experience and actually get it right, instead of make me a stereotype. How dare he!

Howie, that dude is my homie for life. I loved Howie, because he was just such a good freaking friend. He put his life in danger, but did so for the love of friends, and had gotten himself tangled in this craziness, and had a snarky remark to go along with it. So little time or effort is given to make strong, well thought out characters with disabilities.

Hemophilia isnt exactly the best genetic disorder to have when you're chasing serial killers. At 6'6"- 6'7", is freakishly huge height should have made him a threat, but he was still a boy, trying to fit in, and keep his friends alive. If it hadn't been for him, making Jazz human, who knows where Jazz would've ended up. I especially loved his relationship with Connie. I nearly cried when he and Connie saw each other after weeks, and cried together. It was so emotional, and I was glad to see boys crying, in a society that labels men as weak for showing such emotion.

The title is what creeps me out the most. I thought it was plain and obvious, but when it was referenced, I swear, chills were sent down my spine, and I sat for a good 30 seconds, like WOW. There goes my sanity. Before reading this book, I figured I wouldn't give on the title, but now that Im free, free to wander aimlessly with no real purpose, but to think about this book, I cant do Lyga like that.

The cover also suits to book 100%, I hate crows. Never looking at them the same again(even though, my superstitions made me never like them in the first place. You see one at your window, someone's totally dying in your house. Just saying).

The character names and descriptions are all repeats, if you dont know them already. This is the third and final book, so it gets it by default, because by now you already know what they look like.

My hat tips to Lyga. Im so messed up, and happy to be finally free. I LOVED this series. I dont know how many times I have to say it, but I LOVED this series. This is the first book in a really long time, if ever, that I've given a full five stars to.

A satisfying conclusion

The I Hunt Killers trilogy comes to a violent conclusion in BLOOD OF MY BLOOD. When GAME ended, Jasper, Connie, and Howie were each in mortal peril. With Billy Dent on the loose, everyone else is pretty much in mortal peril too. And, as the survivors are starting to realize, Billy and Jasper's history is more complicated than it first appears.

I am quite honestly not sure how I feel about all of the revelations. I feel like half of them were awesome, and half were terrible and not what I wanted at all (even though I expected that's what was going on). And I really can't talk about them in detail since I don't want to spoil any of the (many) twists in this review.

Suffice it to say, if you've enjoyed I HUNT KILLERS and GAME, then you need to read the conclusion of Jasper's story. If you haven't read the first two books, you'll be totally lost trying to navigate BLOOD OF MY BLOOD. It builds strongly on the events of the previous novels.

I'm sad to see these characters go, but I like how well the trilogy played itself out. Another book would be stretching the premise far too thin. I'm not sure if this is the ending I wanted for Jasper, but I'm well satisfied with it.

Author Barry Lyga’s I Hunt Killers novels have been some of my favorite reads over the past few years. I’ve absolutely loved the thrilling mysteries that both I Hunt Killers and Game contained and getting to read Blood of my Blood (the last novel in the trilogy!!) was the icing on the cake. The only thing I knew before going into Blood of my Blood was that it was going to surpass the novels that came before it. It had to. With how Game went down with cliff-hanger endings for the three main characters of the series and Jazz left to die—something crazy was going to happen and I had no clue what.

Blood of my Blood picks up where Game left off. Connie is in Billy Dent’s clutches, Howie is facing his own mortality and the fact that he might have killed Jazz’s grandmother and Jazz is dying inside of a storage locker. However a turn of events bring the trio together with ground-breaking new information. Jazz’s mother isn’t only alive and well but she’s closer than any of them think. And when Jazz reaches his breaking point every mystery surrounding him and his childhood is brought to light. There’s something far more dangerous than Billy Dent out there in the world. There are the Crows and their leader: the Crow King.

I wasn’t surprised by the fast pace in Blood of my Blood but I wasn’t at all expecting to finish the novel as fast as I did. There’s so much going on in Blood of my Blood. Readers are going to be left on the edge of their seat while they flip through the pages of the crazy final installment in the series. Everything about it is crazy. While there isn’t the same feel as the last two novels (hunting killers whose identities are completely secret), hunting down Billy Dent is intense.

The biggest question while reading Blood of my Blood is what the ending outcome will be. Will everybody get a happy ending? Who will live? Who will die? And will Jazz end up just like his father? All these questions and I wanted answers dammit! Luckily, there are answers. Lots and lots of answers. Every question and plot twist set up since the first novel is given an explanation (though some vary from ‘okay’ to ‘holy crap what’).

The writing in Blood of my Blood has the same feel as the last two novels. Perfect descriptions, crazy plot twists and crazier characters. Everything about Blood of my Blood is sound and (more importantly) incredibly shocking. The character development in Blood of my Blood is very well-done and leads readers to wonder just what will become of Jazz and if there’s a sociopath lingering inside of him somewhere. I don’t think a novel has ever made me cringe at events that conspire more than Blood of my Blood has.

What readers should keep in mind before going into Blood of my Blood is that it does get pretty disturbing. From new murders to Billy Dent and his antics to uncovering the Crow King’s identity and just what they’ve done. I’m someone who can stomach quite a bit when reading and considering some of the stuff that’s gone down in the I Hunt Killers series I didn’t expect to be nearly as bothered by some of the information that is given out to Dent and the reader. This novel isn’t just the most intense out of the series thus far but it is also very, very messed-up which should be expected before going into it.

All in all, Blood of my Blood was a great end to the series.

I would recommend the I Hunt Killers series to readers who are looking for a mystery/thriller that will keep them on the edge of their seats, to any readers who want a novel with wicked serial killers and to any readers who just want a series that leaves so much food for thought and offers some crazy murders.

Mind Blowing

I can't find the right words to describe the changes that are taking place within me as a result of reading this book. I think anyone who would be interested in reading this book understands that words are often very limiting when attempting to describe spiritual experiences, and the author does an amazing job of articulating what most of us cannot articulate. Every time I pick up this book, even if I only read a paragraph, I find a new gem that shifts my perception even more. If you are searching, this book will help you.

A difficult read

I bought this book after reading the glowing reviews and started reading the book is great excitement. After the beginning story of the girl who was spontaneously healed, I found the book to be getting very heavy. While I do not wish to comment on the experience or knowledge of Richard Moss, I would like to state that the writing style is extremely complicated and makes it very difficult to read beyond a few paragraphs at a time.

The topic of enlightenment is something that can best be described in poetry. Richard's work has a very high intellectual component and use of a lot of technical jargon. I bought this book to read something similar to one of my favorite book by Michael Singer called "The Untethered Soul" which was easy to read and extremely enlightening. Moss seems to be making a lot of effort to complicate a process that can be explained so nicely as done by Eckhart Tolle and Jeff Foster.

However, like I said, this book did not satisfy my expectation. I am sure there are people who love the heavy and super serious style of Richard Moss's writing. I'm just not one of them and would rather spend my time reading lighter works on the topic.

The Reality Affirmations Forgot

I read the Black Butterfly years ago. I have metaphysical leanings but feel that a lot of the New Age/New Thought movement is bogus information and pseudo spirituality. Richard Moss does a great job delineating the states of spirituality that are deeper (and quite often painful) than what the "feel good spin doctors" would ever discuss. This isn't an easy read because it will take you places emotionally that may be triggering. Yet, Richard Moss' work is profound and cutting edge. It will change your life.

Excellent Book!

This is an excellent book for someone to get a grounding in health analytics from multiple perspectives. The book isn't technical and it also isn't written in such a way as to leave individuals inexperienced in healthcare in the dust. My only criticism is that the writer is overly optimistic in his belief in success. The problems for making the authors' suggestions workable are so difficult, I'm skeptical that some of the goals are truly rational. Overall, this is the best non-technical book I have read on healthcare analytics / business intelligence.

Although little-known today, in her heyday (c. 1910-1940) Susan Glaspell was one of the most notable literary figures of her generation, a best-selling novelist, critically-acclaimed playwright, and a cultural leader of the modernist avant-garde, a legendary circle that shifted geographically from Chicago to New York to Paris, and included playwright Eugene O'Neill, novelists Theodore Dreiser and John Dos Passos, poets Djuna Barnes and Edna St. Vincent Millay, painter Georgia O'Keefe, labor journalists Jack Reed and Mary Heaton Vorse, anarchist activist Emma Goldman, and salon hostess Mabel Dodge Luhan.

In Susan Glaspell: Her Life and Times, author Linda Ben-Zvi provides a thoroughly researched, richly detailed, and imminently readable analysis of Susan Glaspell's professional rise from "society girl" reporting in her native Iowa to Pulitzer-prize winning playwright of international fame, and an equally rich exploration of Glaspell's private life, including her marriage to the charismatic and iconoclastic George Cram ("Jig") Cook and her eight year liaison with writer Norman Matson, seventeen years Glaspell's junior. About the author

Anthony Bolton left Cambridge University with a degree in engineering to begin a career in the City. He started as a graduate trainee working for Keyser Ullmann in 1971 before taking up a full time position as an assistant in their investment department. In 1976 he moved to Schlesingers where he became, for the first time, an investment manager. In 1979, aged 29, he was recruited by Fidelity, the international fund management group, as one of its first London-based investment managers, a move that proved to be the launch of a long and successful career. In surveys of professional investors, he is regularly voted the fund manager most respected by his peers. He retired from full-time investment management at the end of 2007, but continues to work at Fidelity as a mentor of the analysts and younger fund managers as well as being involved in overseeing Fidelity’s investment process. His hobby is composing classical music. Anthony Bolton is married with three children and lives in West Sussex.

One of the most successful European investors

Most of us know of several successful US managers, but when it comes to European managers it's much more difficult. The author of this book is one of the most successful European investors, Anthony Bolton, who very successfully managed several Fidelity funds between 1979 and 2007. The foreword of the book is written by Peter Lynch, the American legend, whom which Bolton has worked with and shares a lot of investing principles with. The author's quotes from various friends/legends are all American, like Bill Miller (whose tenure at Leg Mason ended in tears), Jeremy Grantham and Warren Buffet.

The book is divided into three parts. The first part presents 17 principles (in 17 very short chapters) on how to run money. Bolton tells you his views on everything from company meetings to what personal traits a successful money manager should have. This is the best part of the book, where you actually can get the key point of the book by reading just chapters 1, 2, 6, 8, 9 and 12. The second part is more about his reflections from a life of running money and the third and final part is a shortlist on everything you should remember after reading the book.

Anthony Bolton writes very in an easy language and the book can easily be read in a day or during a long flight. Some might think it's too simple and yes, there are a lot of things that others have talked extensively about, but I appreciate most of his comments and I think most will find something that improves his or hers work in this industry. The book is a pleasure to read and Mr Bolton shares his experiences in a light way and has plenty to give.

There are a few chapters that I really like. Chapter 4, on sentiment is one. Here he observes the need to keep an open mind. "Once we buy shares we become less open to the idea that our decision to buy was wrong. We close our mind to evidence that doesn't confirm our initial thesis" and "investors underestimate the likelihood of rare events happening when they haven't happened recently and overestimates them when they just have."

Chapter 16 is another great part. In just 2 pages he writes what to do when you are not doing well. (I am myself thinking of writing an entire book about this at some point since it's a fascinating topic.) Everyone in this industry, or private investors, will sooner or later have problems (witness Bill Gross and John Paulson's performance in 2011 for example). Just like athletes who are out of form, you need a reset, and your ability to deal with this is critical.

You should not read this book if you have read a lot of investment books and want to learn new things as most of his thoughts have been written extensively by others. In fact you could argue it`s just a rehash of a lot of things others have said better. However, you should read this book if you want an easy to read introduction to financial literature, or are curious on how one of Europe's most successful investors did it. The latter reason is good enough for me.

As a final note, after retiring in 2007, Bolton decided to move to China and start a new fund in 2010, Fidelity China Special Situation. He had at this point decided that there were so many opportunities in China that he had to go there. The China fund had a good start, +30%, but then almost halved and he is lagging his benchmark badly. Now, for the first time, he is highly questioned, with limited use of his old track record of taking an investment of 1 pound to 148 pounds in 28 years in his old fund, Fidelity UK Special Situations. I personally hope he turns it around, and writes another book about that specific experience.

A Money Manager's Memoir

The book is written as a money manager's memoir. In the book, Anthony Bolton shares some of his experience and wisdom, which is good if you are an active money manager. For most of us, how to set up and prepare for interviews with the companies or how to assess the credit risk of the companies using H-score (the modern day version of Z-score) means little. This is because we either do not have access to the information or do not use that particular investment process. There is little hard knowledge we can learn from the book. Most of the chapters are too short and not deep enough on the subject. The chapter on sentiment or the chapter on technical analysis touches the subject, but you will not know what to do afterward. This is very different from what I picked up from Mebane Faber and Eric Richardson's "The Ivy Portfolio". Their approach is highly actionable. Not so for Bolton. Despite that, the book is still a book worth reading as we can pick up some of the mindset and strategic approach of a highly successful active investment manager.

A great story book for a few!

This isn't a book for average amateur investors as the author assumes a great deal of financial knowledge and market fluency from the perspective readers. I like Anthony Bolton's Memoir: Investing Against the Tide: Lessons From a Life Running Money because this was fun to read. I have a positive bias to value-oriented investors whose main focus often is on great business franchises and abilities to generate cash flow. Anthony had been in the middle of institutionalizing investing scene in the Europe for over 3 decades. As a pioneer, Anthony definitely deserves a special place in the ranks of legendary investors along with Buffett, Peter Lynch, Seth Klarmin, or late Philip Fisher. I also must admit that he was very lucky to spend his prime years as an investor when the Western Europe markets were acting as "emerging markets" from the US investor's perspective. Going through rapid development of more sophisticated equity capital markets and the shareholder friendly corporate governance, he had maximized his chances by being a good fundamental guy with savvy technical skills.

This could have been remarkably more interesting and insightful if he had gone into more details in case studies for professional investors. Often times, he kept everything too simple and short in order to expand the scope of readers able to handle this material but I don't his efforts to simplicity may have produced a product that has lost its place a bit.

I had a lot of questions at the end and I hope I can get a chance to ask him my questions to him.

This book is the result the of the author’s adventure in painting and work with Liane Collot d’Herbois (1907-1999), the well-known artist and therapist who worked in the tradition of Rudolf Steiner’s spiritual research. The author learned to surrender to the beings of color, to remove one’s self from the process, and to paint as "one would do mathematics," that is, in an orderly way.

The journey recorded in Touched takes the reader first to Tintagel on the Atlantic coast of Cornwall, England, where Liane Collot d’Herbois had lived as a child. In the early 1990s, the author first met Liane in Driebergen, The Netherlands, and began a journey of self-discovery through color. She recollects conversations with Liane, shares significant words from Steiner, Liane, and others, along with observations on her travels through England, Europe, Russia, Persia, and elsewhere.

Underlying the narrative is Marie-Laure’s more intimate journey into light and darkness and colors and the wise teaching of Liane Collot d’Herbois. She describes the effects of using charcoal to explore light and darkness, then moves on discuss colors individually and their effects, subtle and otherwise, while illuminating her text with the words of Rudolf Steiner and others and offering her own observations on artists and color.

About the Author
Marie-Laure Valandro was born in 1948 and spent her childhood in Bourgogne, Morocco, Algeria, and Bretagne. At fifteen, she moved with her family to Boston, where she received a B.A. in modern literature, romance languages, and education and taught in the Boston public school system. Later, she moved to Vermont, and obtained an M.A. in literature. At twenty-three, Marie-Laure returned to Paris to study at The Sorbonne, to teach and to travel around Europe to various Christian Holy sites. She later moved to Tehran to teach technical English and to tour throughout the Eastern world, studying Sufism, Zoroastrianism, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism as seen through the eyes of its believers and through visits to holy sites. Marie-Laure returned to the United States to care for her son. She lived in the community of Wilton, New Hampshire, where she first encountered Anthroposophy. She ended her school teaching to care for her daughter, son, and husband, a medical doctor. Meanwhile, she continued to travel and trek in South America, both alone and with her children. Later, she moved to Wisconsin and began the Liane Collot d’Herbois training in painting. On her family farm in Wisconsin, Marie-Laure uses biodynamic methods and has developed master gardens, vegetable gardens, herb gardens, and an orchard. She has also established a painting studio, where she creates large veil paintings. Recently, she moved from Wisconsin to a post-and-beam house built by her son in the Canadian Rockies of British Columbia. Her goal is to continue walking across this beautiful Earth, meeting people with love and sharing her journeys in meditative books, sprinkled with insights from Rudolf Steiner’s works and the many talented students of his teachings. She continues to make large veil paintings to “heal people and spaces.”

Changing my perception of color

This book intrigued me so much about the work of Lliane Collot D'Herbois that I purchased her book Light, Darkness and Colour in Painting Therapy.
